SMILE!

Did you know that smiling actually promotes a physical reaction in your body that makes you feel better?

Endorphins are naturally produced chemicals in our bodies which are released when we smile and they are responsible for making us feel happy, and also help lower stress levels. Their release is triggered by the particular smiling movements of the muscles in your face which are then interpreted by the brain, and no matter whether the smile is genuine or fake the more we stimulate our brain to release this chemical the more often we feel happier and relaxed.

Endorphins also act as the body’s natural pain killers. For sufferers of chronic pain, laughing and smiling can help with pain management, as can laughing off the pain when you accidentally bump into something or fall over.

And then there’s that nasty old stress hormone cortisol to deal with….well endorphins can see that off as well, as, when the release of endorphins is increased, the stress hormone cortisol is reduced.

So if you ever needed another reason to smile, this is it
